RP-PvE Server Anyone?

Age of Conan may be a PvP-oriented game, but many RP-oriented players have flocked to the game. Non-RP players have been given the choice of a PvE or PvP server; however, RP-oriented players have not been given this privilege. Instead, roleplayers only have one kind of server choice: RP-PvP.

So, why hasn’t Funcom offered up a RP-PvE server? There is already normal PvE servers, so it cannot be that hard to implement a RP-PvE server as well. In the meantime, roleplayers have been forced to cope with RP-PvP servers, a kind of server that many dislike.

The outcome of this is that PvE oriented roleplayers have been forced into a decision. They can either go to a PvE server and sacrifice roleplaying, or they can go to a RP-PvP server and suck up the PvP. Either way, the roleplayers are forced to suffer. So, how is this fair to gamers? Funcom, when will you release a RP-PvE server and make things right?

UPDATE: Seems that there is a RP-PvE server for EU players (thanks for the correction readers), so why isn’t there one for US players as well?

MASSIVE New Updates Announced!

Funcom has just released a press release detailing upcoming content for Age of Conan for the next few months. There are so many announcements in here that I am simply going to list off the major highlights:

  • New PvP system entitled “To the Death” coming late this month which will take the place of the jail system. “The more lower level players you kill, the easier it is for others to hunt you down.”
  • PvP levels being added to the game this month: 10 levels with additional ranks and class specific PvP gear and armor sets (peep the PvP ranger set here)
  • Free AoC update incoming later this year entitle “Kingship!” which will allow guilds to form alliances and even build unique Battlekeeps and “wonders of the world” which will grant players’ additional powers as they “conquer on a massive scale”.

Age of Conan- Fictional Story Series

ConanIf you’re into the lore and role playing aspects of Age of Conan, then this is definitely for you. Michael Lafferty has written the first two segments of his ongoing fictional story series based on elements from Age of Conan. Even if you’ve never found yourself that interested by roleplaying elements in games, I highly recommend giving these a read (or at least part one) because I thought it was pretty incredible.

The one warning I have to give is that the stories do contain some SMALL quest spoilers since they attempt to follow the flow of the game itself, but that shouldn’t keep you from at least checking them out. A big thanks to gamezone.com for presenting these amazing pieces of fanfiction.
